The protagonist of the event is the "San Mauro" chestnut harvested in San Rocco di Piegara, a traditional product from the Veronese mountains. Referred to by the Romans as the "acorn of the gods," it is cultivated and harvested using traditional methods. The term "marroni" refers to large chestnuts, but in reality, the size is based on a divided impression. The flesh of the marrone, sweet and tasty, does not fall apart when cooked and is characterized by its high nutritional value. Thanks to its important content, this fruit from the Lessini mountains has always represented a fundamental resource for the mountain dwellers and is highly appreciated on Veronese tables.
San Rocco di Piegara, a fraction of Roverè Veronese, is preparing to offer five dates rich in events, to welcome the return of the autumn fruit on the Lessini Mountains.
In the church square, the marroni harvested from the surroundings will be cooked and can also be purchased raw. Food and wine stands and stalls will animate the main streets, offering tastings of local wines and typical products, as well as demonstrations of ancient crafts.
