The star of the event is the "San Mauro" chestnut harvested in San Rocco di Piegara, a traditional product of the Verona mountains. Referred to by the Latins as the "acorn of the gods," it is cultivated and harvested using traditional methods. Large-sized chestnuts are called marroni, but in reality, the size is based on a divided impression. The flesh of the marrone, sweet and tasty, does not break down during cooking and is characterized by its high nutritional value. Thanks to its important content, this fruit from the Lessini mountains has always represented a fundamental resource for the mountain dwellers and is highly appreciated on Veronese tables.
San Rocco di Piegara, a village in Roverè Veronese, is preparing and offering five dates full of events to welcome the return of the autumn fruit in the Lessini Mountains.
